“Now the Lord is withholding from us a great many truths he would gladly reveal if we were ready to receive them. Did you know that a portion of the record from which the Book of Mormon is taken is sealed? The Prophet was not permitted to break the seals, and we will not receive the sealed record until the time comes when the people will show by their faith their willingness to accept it. Until we are prepared to receive the things already given, I fear the Lord will hold from us those other things which one time will be revealed.” (Joseph Fielding Smith)
Daily Focus Scriptures to mark and ponder:
What can I learn from the example of Limhi compared to the example of Alma? When I am faced with a trial do I turn to the Lord immediately? Do I rely more on the arm of flesh than on the arm of God? What can I change in my life so I can be worthy to be delivered from bondage like Alma and his people were? Mosiah 23:21-22 - "Nevertheless the Lord seeth fit to chasten his people; yea he trieth their patience and their faith. Nevertheless...whosoever putteth his trust in him the same shall be lifted up at the last day."

Food for Thought: A TALE OF TWO CITIES - LIMHI and ALMA
Compare the difference between how Limhi's people had to escape on their own and how the Lord devlivered Alma and his people. The righteousness of Alma’s people did not prevent the prophecies of Abinadi from being fulfilled. But their experience with their enemies and with bondage was a much different one from the experience of the people of Noah and Limhi. We also learn what God is able to do for us in such situations:
1. The Lord softened the hearts of their enemies (23:29)
2. The Lord eased the burdens upon their shoulders (24:14)
3. The Lord did strengthen them (24:15)
4. He promised to go with them and deliver them out of bondage (24:16,17)
5. He caused a deep sleep to come upon their enemies (24:19)
6. He promised to stop their pursuers in the valley of Alma (24:23)
7. They reached Zarahemla in only twelve days (24:25) The people of Limhi were many days in the wilderness (see 22:13)
