"We hope you will begin as of this date. If you have not already commenced this important duty in your lives, get a good notebook, a good book that will last through time and into eternity for the angels to look upon. Begin today and write in it your goings and your comings, your deeper thoughts, your achievements, and your failures, your associations and your triumphs, your impressions and your testimonies. We hope you will do this, our brothers and sisters, for this is what the Lord has commanded, and those who keep a personal journal are more likely to keep the Lord in remembrance in their daily lives. (“President Kimball Speaks Out on Personal Journals,” Ensign, Dec. 1980, 61).
Daily Focus Scriptures to mark and ponder:
Jarom 1: 4 - "And there are many among us who have many revelations, for they are not all stiff-necked. And as many as are not stiff-necked and have faith, have communion with the Holy Spirit, which maketh manifest unto the children of men, according to their faith. "
Omni1:9 - "Now I, Chemish, (Chemish has the distinction of writing only one verse. He contributes less to the Book of Mormon than any other author.) write what few things I write, in the same book with my brother; for behold, I saw the last which he wrote, that he wrote it with his own hand; and he wrote it in the day that he delivered them unto me. And after this manner we keep the records, for it is according to the commandments of our fathers … And I make an end.”Daily Questions:
How am I doing at keeping a personal record of my life? Do I know the date I was baptized and confirmed? Do I have recorded the date I went to the temple for the first time?

Food for Thought:
Jarom 1:4 is a remarkable text. The announcement is not that the faithful are entitled to receive revelation - but rather that the faithful will not be without revelation! The spirit of revelation is not intended to be a privilege sparingly granted among the household of faith; rather, it is obligatory upon all who are or can be called Saints. Without the spirit of revelation we can neither preach nor teach the gospel, nor know of its certainty. Without revelation there is nor can be no true religion. DCBM, 2:107)
